The main rotor hub of the Mi‑8 helicopter is an important component of the transmission system and is designed to attach the blades, transmit torque from the rotor shaft to the blades, and also to absorb and transmit aerodynamic forces acting on the main rotor blades to the fuselage.
On Mi‑8 helicopters, the main rotor hub is a five‑blade hub with spaced and rotated horizontal hinges, vertical hinges, a centrifugal overhang limiter, and a flapping compensator.
The centrifugal overhang limiter of the rotor hub is designed to prevent the blades from striking the airframe structural elements at low rotor RPM. The flapping compensator is used to reduce the amplitude of the blade flapping movements and the tilting of the rotor cone.
